The Dark Divine by: Bree Despain

Reviewed by: CRBee

Since we are approaching Halloween, I thought I’d share a read that can kind of get you in the spirit of things. This book is all about a girl named Grace Divine, who has always wondered about the night Jude, her brother, came home beat up and bloody. She was never given the truth until Daniel, a guy who used to be good childhood friends with Grace and Jude, that mysteriously disappeared after that night, returns. With his return, Grace grows closer to him and discovers more about he and Jude’s real identities. She also learns about that strange night and is forced to choose between her growing relationship with Daniel and her loyalty to her brother. Her decision is clearly difficult and to make it worse she is struggling to save possibly the most important thing: her own soul. This book is filled with mystery, secrets, surprises, and,of course, darkness!, so catch some moonlight and check it out! There is also a second book available called The Lost Saint if you feel like reading more!

Her mother ships her off to the freezing state of Maine, her father dies, she has a weird obsession with phobias, and there is a crazy creepy stalker following her around everywhere she goes. Being shipped off to Maine to supposedly stay “sane” is not working so well. Zara’s life starts tumbling down when boys from her school randomly go missing. Not to mention the stalker guy she has been seeing is no man, but a pixie! Her friend/super hot guy she wishes she was dating is a werewolf. Her mother hooks up with a pixie and her step dad is a weretiger. Can it get any worse?

Twilight Series by: Stephenie Meyer

A Book That Bites

You know it, you love it, and if you don’t you’ve heard all about it! It’s none other than the Twilight series! In 2005 Stephanie Meyer wrote this amazing series. Just three years later, in 2008, the book was made into the movies that left viewers wanting more. I thought this series would be fitting to blog about seeing as Halloween is right around the corner! Before reading this blog, I have only one request; DON’T judge a book by its movie.

Twilight focuses on a love triangle amongst its three main characters; Bella, Jacob, and of course the fabulous, sparkling Edward. Bella Swan is not a spectacular girl by any means. She is what society would call a normal teenager. When Bella decides to go live with her Dad in Forks, Washington, she meets Edward Cullen. Immediately she is drawn to his mysteriousness and charming good looks. Along with meeting Edward, she is reconnected with her childhood friend Jacob Black whom she also develops feelings for.

As Bella attempts to file through her love interests, she discovers some secrets along the way. The fabulous Edward is really an immortal vampire, ready to sink his teeth into her, and her innocent childhood playmate is actually a werewolf. The two boys fight throughout the story to win Bella’s love and maintain the peace between the Black and Cullen families.

This plot is way too simple right? WRONG!! Eventually the plot thickens (muahhahahahaaa!!) Both Edward and Jacob end up having to work together to protect Bella from other vampires who want to kill her. And that is where I’ll stop! Read the rest of the book to find out what happens to Bella and who wins her in the end! Remember when reading this series that the movies are a very poor representation of the books. The books are extremely well-written and entertaining. Don’t be afraid to cuddle up with Twilight; I promise it won’t bite!
